How to reach your creative side

Where do you go, what do you do to bring out your creative side?

My MBTI profile is ISTJ, with S for SENSING, which means I have a preference for facts and figures, the realities of the situation and practical applications. Those with N (INTUITION) are more likely to have imaginative insights or focus on ideas and possibilities. The creative side of my personality, therefore, can need a kickstart.

Running helps me. It is the routine and discipline that consistently takes me to my most creative space. Running for me seems to engage the right side of my brain, kickstarting my creative personality. Typically you will find me running along the River Thames or a Royal Park in SW London. I regularly stop during a run to type a thought, or partial idea into my phone in OneNote or email so I don't forget it by the end.

For anyone who is reviewing my mile split times on Strava will see that any run above 8min/mile will likely be a creative one. In contrast, those below the 8min/mile marker are a strong indication that I didn't stop to record my thoughts before starting up again.

Not a naturally creative person I find the discipline of running and gentle rhythm I enter into consistently helps me tap into that part of my personality.

What's your particular creative space? Running, cycling, baking, meditation, walking, sitting with a cup of coffee? Please let me know in the comments.
